Meditation is a millenials-old practice that involves training the mind to focus and redirect thoughts. A regular practice promotes relaxation, self-awareness, and a sense of calm. While there are various meditation techniques, the fundamental essence remains the same: being fully present in the moment.

Meditation offers a wide range of benefits, both for your mental and physical well-being. It helps reduce stress, increase emotional resilience, improve concentration, and promote overall inner harmony. By integrating meditation into your daily routine, you can experience these transformative effects.

Getting Started with Meditation

Create a Sacred Space

Designate a quiet and peaceful space in your home for meditation. It could be a corner of a room or a dedicated area where you feel comfortable and free from distractions.

That's what I did when I started. I was in the corner of our bedroom, in front of the window. Because it was out of the way, I could leave my candle and cousin out, always ready for a session.

Decorate it with items that inspire tranquility, such as candles, essential oil diffuser, cushions, or soothing artwork.

Choose a Meditation Technique

Explore different meditation techniques to find one that resonates with you. Popular options include mindfulness meditation, guided visualization, or loving-kindness meditation. Experiment with different approaches until you discover the one that brings you the most peace and focus.

If you are clueless as to what will work for you, I often recommend trying to start with heart based meditation such as loving kindness or gratitude driven ones.

As a beginner, start with short meditation sessions to ease into the practice. Begin with just a few minutes each day and gradually increase the duration as you become more comfortable. Remember, consistency is more important than duration at this stage.

Tips for Maintaining a Consistent Practice

1/ Establish a Routine

Incorporate meditation into your daily routine by setting aside a specific time for practice. It could be in the morning to start your day on a positive note or in the evening to unwind before bed. Consistency will help cultivate a habit and deepen your practice.

2/ Be Patient and Gentle with Yourself

Meditation is a journey, and it's natural to encounter challenges along the way. Don't be too hard on yourself if your mind wanders or you find it difficult to stay focused. Accept these moments with kindness and gently bring your attention back to your chosen meditation object. Make sure to celebrate yourself for showing up day after day. Even if you only meditate for a few minutes, you are showing up for yourself. Be proud of yourself for making time for your self-care.

Consider joining a meditation group or seeking guidance from experienced practitioners or meditation teachers. They can provide valuable insights, answer your questions, and offer support on your meditation journey.
