If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. According to the CDC, 1 in 3 adults doesn’t get enough sleep, and research from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine shows that stress-related insomnia is on the rise.
But what if the key to better sleep wasn’t in a pill or another cup of herbal tea, but in sound?
For centuries, sound healing has been used to bring the body into balance, and modern research confirms that specific frequencies can calm the nervous system, lower stress hormones, and support deep, restorative sleep.

Let’s dive in.
Sound is more than just what we hear—it’s something we feel on a vibrational level. Our bodies are made up of energy and frequency, meaning sound waves can directly influence our brainwaves, nervous system, and even hormone levels.
Your brain operates at different frequencies throughout the day, shifting between five major brainwave states:
Beta (14–30 Hz): Active, alert, thinking (daytime brain state)
Alpha (8–13 Hz): Relaxed, creative, meditative
Theta (4–7 Hz): Deep relaxation, intuition, light sleep
Delta (0.5–3 Hz): Deep sleep, restoration, healing
Gamma (30+ Hz): Higher cognitive function, peak performance
Why is this important? When we struggle with sleep, our brain has trouble transitioning from beta (thinking, planning) to theta and delta (deep rest).
Research from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) shows that certain sound frequencies can synchronize with brain activity, helping the brain transition naturally into sleep states (source).
Slowing brainwaves from active beta to restful theta and delta states
Reducing cortisol (the stress hormone that keeps us awake)
Stimulating melatonin production, which regulates sleep cycles
Activating the parasympathetic nervous system, signaling the body to relax
In simple terms? The right sounds help you relax faster, sleep deeper, and wake up feeling more refreshed.
Not all sounds are equal when it comes to sleep. The following frequencies are scientifically linked to deep relaxation and improved sleep quality:
Known as the Frequency of the Universe, 432 Hz is said to resonate with the natural rhythms of the Earth. Many find it deeply relaxing, as it helps the body and mind reset from stress and tension.
Sometimes called the "miracle tone," 528 Hz is linked to stress reduction, DNA repair, and deep healing. A 2018 study published in the Journal of Addiction Research & Therapy found that listening to 528 Hz reduced anxiety levels and improved overall well-being.
Binaural beats use two slightly different frequencies in each ear, which causes the brain to create a third "phantom" frequency—the difference between the two.
Example:
Ear 1: 200 Hz
Ear 2: 205 Hz
Brain Perceives: 5 Hz (which aligns with deep sleep delta waves!)
Listening to binaural beats between 0.5–4 Hz has been shown to improve deep sleep quality and duration(source). We started to work on creating binaural beats with atmos sound, check out our video here. We'll release our first official sound very soon!
Crystal singing bowls produce stable, harmonic vibrations that interact directly with the body's energy field. Studies suggest that sound therapy using bowls can help reduce stress, lower heart rate, and prepare the mind for sleep (source).
Want to experience the benefits of sound healing for sleep? Here’s how:
Dim the lights, avoid screens for 30–60 minutes before bed. Avoid spending too much time of you screens as their lights doesn't help with sleeping
Use essential oils like lavender or sandalwood to activate relaxation.
Play a 528 Hz track or binaural beats for 10-15 minutes before sleep. ou can also try one of my meditations some coupled with sound healing to guide you to ultimate state of relaxation.
Try listening with headphones for the best effect.
Inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 7, exhale for 8 (4-7-8 method).
Slow, deep breathing enhances the effects of sound therapy.
Play a low-volume sound healing track overnight to support deep sleep.
Avoid disruptive sounds; choose gentle, continuous frequencies.
